Movie Rating Trivia

Did you know that in 1968, the movie industry adopted a film ratings system for the first time. The initial ratings were G (for general audiences), M (for mature audiences), R (no one under 16 admitted without an adult), and X (no one under 16 admitted).

Until the late 1960s, American films were unrated. Instead, the industry's self-imposed regulations, the Production Code, decided upon permissible screen content. The Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America adopted the code in 1930 and it went into strict effect in 1934.
